Rated 5 out of 5 by from A May I’ve been waiting for I love Manduka but always slip on their mats because of my sweaty palms and feet. This mat is perfect! it is also extremely light weight so it travels extremely well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No slip This mat works great in hot yoga. I lightly spritz it before class. So much better than fighting with the towel on top of my old mat! As other reviews stated, the mat does have a smell. It fades quickly though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peaceful artistic yoga mat I'm in LOOOOVE with my new. Calming, peacefully artistic yoga mat, it has a weird scent at first but it will go soon I guess because of the natural material.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a sweaty practice I love this gorgeous mat. It's so nice to be able to practice without a towel over my mat. My hands and feet don't slip at all. I would buy it again! It would be nice to have to have the option of a longer mat as well for taler folks. I'm 5'7" and it's a good size for me, but anyone 6' or taller might find this a bit too short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this mat!! I haven’t been trying forever to find the perfect hot yoga mat that will allow me to use it without a towel! This is it! No slipping, and doesn’t show my sweat and I sweat a lot!! I hope this isn’t a limited edition and Manduka continues to make these hot Equa yoga mats!!! This is def worth the money! I will not use any other mat for hot yoga!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this mat! I needed a mat for a hot yoga class I wanted to try. My old mat was just too slippery even for a regular class so I knew it would frustrate me when I started to sweat. I have used this mat twice so far, and I have to say it does the trick. No slipping or sliding, and it has just the right amount of cushion. It's long enough for me (I am 55 4") and is heavy duty enough that I think this will last for years. The quality is excellent, well made and worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful mat! This is an awesome mat that is also beautiful to practice on! Love Brent Broza's photograph translated on to this Hot Yoga Mat. Cleans easily. The only drawback is an odor like the rubber backing, but the smell is dissipating with use.

Is there going to be any new designs coming out? I like what I see now but I just would like to see more variety in colors.

For people who have had good or bad experiences with this mat: what is the floor that your practice is on? Is it rug like traditional bikram studios? Is it wood? Etc? Have you found this made a difference?

Asked by: Clemensandlimes
I practice on a bamboo or hard floor, and found the mat can slide around on the floor in a faster more dynamic practice. I now use it for slower flows and home practice, but don't use it for my faster hot vinyasa or rocket practices. It's probably fine on a rug surface. I think one thing that would be helpful if Manduka were to distinguish between hot yoga like bikram, and hot flow/vinyasa/rocket yoga. They are really different forms of "hot" yoga, are practiced on different surfaces as you note, and are better suited by different mats.

How is the grip if it isn’t wet? I am a yoga instructor and teach vinyasa but I’m not always sweating a lot. I no longer use my last manduka pro mat because it never broke in even after months of use and 2 salt treatments. Not sure I’d I should risk it.

Honestly, the equa Hot mat can feel slippery, like practicing on smooth suede. If you put a bit of water on it where your feet and hands typically go in Sun A's it helps, then it's not sticky as practice goes on. But those first down dogs may require some extra core work without it. The bigger challenge for me was that in a really hot class it moved around on the floor. I think it will depend on the heat of the room and how you feel on it. The mats are gorgeous and a great texture, and Manduka has a good return policy.

What is the thickness (mm) of the mat that’s bonded to the towel?

My habit is to do the flow portion and THEN put a Yogitoes towel down for the seated/core portion of class. But I can't do a down dog on my towel without my hands slipping forward! Will I have the same problem with this style of mat?

Asked by: Catyoga
You would, but I got a tip from my teacher to just sprinkle a little from your water bottle in the area that your hands typically go and rub that into the mat a bit. The traction is there right away. I love this mat and get a lot of compliments. Buy!

Do you offer a lifetime guarantee with this model?  It's not explicitly listed as it is in the Pro etc.  I'm just nervous with the gripping issues stated by some practitioners on this review.  Thank you.

Asked by: Amy13
This mat doesn't have a lifetime guarantee, I believe it's only the PRO and PROlite that Manduka offers that on. In terms of the grip, its been one of the better hot yoga mats in my experience. In order to ensure you have the best grip from the start, I like to start my class by lightly spraying down the mat with the spray bottle in my studio. It activates the grip much quicker!!

Has anyone who practices the ashtanga method tried this mat? I am wondering how it would be during the first surya namaskaras before I get sweaty? Thanks!

Asked by: marthaynes
Yes, I have used this mat several times now, and I have not slipped at any point during my practice - I typically start with sun salutations and don’t start sweating until a few minutes in!

How often should this mat be washed? After every use like a yogitoes towel? How does it hold up after multiple machine washes?

Asked by: SweatyBetty
If you have a balcony or a place to hang this mat, you're golden. Don't leave it wrapped up. Here's what I do after practice: 1. Fold the rubber sides against each other to touch so these don't get wet 2. Roll the folded mat and transport it home 3. Soak a wash cloth in warm, soapy water 4. Wipe down the mat 5. Hang it on your balcony or bathroom towel rack I usually can do about 3-4 practices before needing to wash it. Quick way: throw it in the washing machine (cold) with some detergent and try not to add a bunch of other stuff to the wash. The less stuff, the less likely something will damage the mat Correct way: put it in your shower or tub, run water over it and scrub it with a sponge, light bristle brush or hand with light soap. Ring it out and get as much water out of it (this will allow it to dry faster). Takes usually a full day to be fully dry or put it out in the sun to speed things up. Hope this helps
