Winter Solstice: Honoring the Quiet Season Through Pause and Reflection

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year; a quiet turning point when nature invites us to pause. As the season slows, so can we.

In the fourth part of our series marking the change in seasons, we welcome back Yoga & Sound Bath Guide Tiffany Leonardo. With her signature warmth and wisdom, Tiffany offers a personal look at how she embraces winter’s natural stillness through sound and quiet ritual. She reminds us that this season is a chance to soften, reflect, and let go.

A Season to Slow Down

Tiffany views winter as an invitation to turn inward. Fewer social obligations. More room to reflect. It's a season of softening, physically and energetically.

She feels especially connected to the water element during this time. That connection reminds her to let go of effort, move gently, and allow space for what’s already present.

Rituals for the Longest Night

To mark the solstice, Tiffany keeps it simple.

“I enjoy cozying up with a cup of cacao and flipping through my journal,” she says. “It’s a time to reflect on all that’s happened from last winter until now.”

Without rushing into what’s next, she carves out time to notice what’s shifted and what no longer needs her energy.

Sound as an Anchor

Sound healing uses vibration, often through instruments like crystal bowls or chimes, to help calm the nervous system and support emotional release. During the winter season, Tiffany prefers to enjoy sound baths virtually so she can be at home.

“I’ll turn on the fireplace, light candles, and spray my favorite essentials so I can fully relax.” In this setting, sound healing becomes a quiet form of recalibration, one that meets the body and mind where they are.

What Her Winter Practice Looks Like

Tiffany calls her winter self-care routine “T-Time”: a Yin class followed by a sound bath.

On days that feel especially stagnant, she brings in movement with Qigong—a way to create gentle momentum without pushing against the season’s natural pace.

Practice with Tiffany: A Winter Solstice Sound Bath

To to reconnect with your inner world and align with the essence of the season, Tiffany created a 15-minute Winter Solstice sound healing class. It’s a simple way to slow down and return to yourself, on the solstice or any winter day that calls for quiet.
