Fabric-like Surface Finish for slip-resistance, even with light perspiration.
Closed-Cell Surface to keep out moisture (sweat) from seeping into the mat and breeding bacteria.
Proprietary Dot-Pattern Bottom to resist sliding.
Engineered for Sustainability High quality material will not peel, flake or fade; Longevity reduces consumption and landfill waste, Lifetime guarantee against wear & tear; Improves with use.
Oeko-Tex Certified Production for non-toxic emissions.
To Store: Roll The Black Mat with the top side (fabric-finish) facing outwards. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.
To Break In: The surface texture of The Black Mat PRO improves with use. Our customers have found that the best way to “break in” their mat is to use it on a daily basis. Another trick is to sprinkle coarse sea salt over your mat, use just a spritz of water or dampen with a cloth, scrub it down with a stiff scrub brush, and air dry in the sunshine.
To Clean: We recommend using Manduka Mat Renew or any non-solvent household cleaner and a damp cloth or sponge. Hang to dry in the sunshine. DO NOT clean your mat with a garden hose, put in the bathtub or shower, put it in the washing machine, or use a vacuum cleaner - it may break the machine and ruin your mat!
If you are ever unsure of a cleaning method, feel free to contact us at email@example.com for the best recommendations and advice for cleaning.
Manduka PRO series yoga mats, designed to last a lifetime (or two), curb the amount of PVC mats that enter landfills every year and reduces overall mat consumption. Also, during the manufacturing of most PVC products, toxic emissions may be released into the air. However, PRO series mats are manufactured through a process that ensures no toxic emissions are released into the atmosphere. The Black Mat is certified safe for human contact by OEKO-TEX, an environmental certification agency in Europe for the textile industry.

This mat is fantastic. I am a very sweaty yogi but this mat never lets me slip. I'm also very tall and the long length mat is great for me. I could not be happier. I have read a couple of reviews saying the mat is slippery to begin with but I found it was much less slippery than mats I've broken in the past and after about a week I had no slipping at all. Worth every penny.
I am a yoga novice and after a few months on my regular exercise mat was looking to make an investment in a good mat that would last. After lots of reseach I decided to give this mat a shot. Worth every penny. Very comfortable and sturdy. There was about a week breaking in period (about 6 classes) but after that no slipping at all. In fact, I've tried it with and without a Manduka towel for hot yoga, and I prefer it without. The color is great too. Very soothing green. I'd recommend this mat to anyone.
Reviews always focus on the product which, based on the 9 pieces I ordered and tested including this mat, deserves its 5 of 5 star reviews. The towels, eye masks, mat, cases and everything else are all of exceptional quality, but the surprising factor was how outstanding the customer service was before, through and after the ordering process.
Manduka customer service (particularly Karin) went above and beyond my expectations, from knowledge on customs (I'm in Canada), to shipping advice, to order confirmations and even proactive shipment tracking notifications. They were considerate of my schedule and needs, and were also personable and courteous. I will never purchase yoga items from another company, solely based on the extraordinary customer service of Manduka.
Thanks for the experience!
I've been using this mat regularly for over a year now and it still looks brand new. Investing in the Black Surf Pro really has changed my practice. It's very supportive and comfortable, much more so than my previous premium rubber mat. The surface texture allows a great balance between stickiness a small amount of "slide"; perfect for smooth transitions from Upward Facing Dog back to Downward Facing Dog, for example. I'd definitely buy another, except I'll never have to thanks to the Lifetime Guarantee!
This mat is my home. It's as blue as the ocean or the sky. If you're anything like me, you need ocean or sky in your life. Aside from the amazing color, this mat is well built, doesn't slip & sturdy. Much <3 to Manduka for this incredible mat!
I love this mat. Worth every cent you pay for it. It always stays exactly where you put it and it's super comfy on the feet.
recently purchased the Manduka Black Magic Pro and matching Practice Tote. I didn't mind spending a little extra for the color choice and extended lenght. The mat is by far the best out there to choose from and the bag is heavy canvas material-not the cheap flimsy nylon with mesh. Combined they are heavy for most yogis. The carry strap is wide and firm to distribute the weight of the mat evenly accross your shoulder. The zipper pulls could use a little more heft in their next desing update. I sweat alot during yoga and normaly use a towel, it's not necessary with the Pro. Once you break it in and clean a couple of times with sea salt and a damp towel the slippery coating goes away. Do yourself a favor and purchase this mat and bag. It's well worth the investment. NAMASTE
This mat significantly improved my practice since the cushioning is far superior to anything else you will find and does not move from your set place. It does not show any wear and tear and is super easy to clean.
I was the lucky owner of a Black Mat Pro that I have used just about daily for the pat 4 years until about a month ago when my car was stolen, and since my mat virtually lives in the car, with it, went my mat.
Having to return to the cheap mat I own or gyms/studios provide has been awful! My practice is my own, and I can do it without a mat or wherever of course, but I am a larger person and have a lot of bone and joint problems and I wasn't aware of just how much my manduka affected my practice. I dont get nearly the amount of pain that I get using regular mats, and have a much more fluid and enjoyable practice. It is the most sound, comfortable mat on the planet.
I originally purchased it because of the reviews and lifetime guarantee when I started getting really serious about my practice, but realized Id never have to use that guarantee because the mat actually gets better with time. It was really starting to feel like home after 4 years. I have tried out other higher end mats that friends own, nothing is like the manduka. worth every penny. And now it the same mat comes in purple, so I am buying another one even though I cant afford it because its a necessity. I am going for the 85" this time, cant wait for it to arrive, my practice just hasnt been the same since mine was stolen...
I am newer to yoga (two months into it) and practice Power Vinyasa yoga. After a lot of research into just what kind of mat I should get I purchased this one and got the 71". I am so thrilled with this mat. It has just the right thickness, density and stickiness even in the 90 degree heat we practice in; I don't slip!!!
I agree with the other people that reviewed this mat; after using two other mats before this one this mat is truly my soul mat - love love LOVE it!!!!!
I bought a Lululemon version Purple color Manduka Pro about two years ago and fell in love with it right away. It is simply amazing - nice-locking, perfect gripping and durable! Then comes the Black Magic. I struggled for months and finally bought it for my basement practice room (good reason - one Manduka Pro for the main floor and one for the basement!). The color is so gorgeous! It's a bit pricey but I would recommend it to anyone!!!
I absolutely adore this mat - its durable and grippy. I am 6'1 and 85" is perfect for me. love the color as well, amazing mat!
My Manduka Pro - Black Magic was just delivered to me last night; I haven't even officially practiced on it yet and I'm already in love with it. Absolutely my soul mat! I was just practicing a couple of poses on my living room floor last night and I cannot wait to start using it in class tonight. And I want to show it off too! Ha ha! I'm 5'10" and I went with the long length; a million times better for me than the standard length. No more shifting on my mat to make sure that my nose isn't touching the floor after releasing Chaturanga Very comfortable as I could already feel the benefits of the padding on my knees. It is a little bit heavy but that's not even remotely an issue; a great mat like this is going to have some weight to it. I've only been practicing yoga consistently for about six months now; I had no idea how much difference a mat could make. If you are dedicated to your practice and the advancement of it, I highly recommend spending the money and investing in this mat.
I am a fairly new practicioner. I actually took my first class years ago while struggling through a bad marraige. I wandered in with my "lovely" seafoam green mat purchased from Target. A lot has changed since then and I am now dedicated to my yoga practice which of course means I needed a good/great yoga mat. I found my soul mat! I puchased the 71" version which is perfect for me at 5'9". It is not that heavy really, I would take it to the studio..no problem. I LOVE my Manduka PRO Black Magic!
I purchased my Manduka Pro Black Magic a year ago when it was first offered. It instantly became my soul mat. I love the comfort, support, and traction that it offers. I cannot even feel the hard floor beneath my mat- it's just me and my mat. Some complain about how heavy these mats are when transporting them, but to me it is worth it. There simply is no better mat. I've been using it frequently for a year now, and it doesn't show any signs of wear. My only disappointment when I purchased it was that it was not available in the 85" version. Needless to say, now that it is, I've ordered it and I cannot wait to begin practicing on it.
If you are large, buy this mat. I am over six feet tall and press the scales at 225. Yes a regular guy. The 85 is perfect because I need the whole mat for my size and it holds my weight so my knees do not get bothered. Beware, I am also strong enough to carry it. It is heavy but the last mat you will every buy. Actually I also bought the 71 version because they did not have the longer version in a color I wanted. It works for home but the longer mat is much better for me.
I have this color and I love it!
I've read enough about this Black pro mat being too slippery, but also so many 5 star reviews that I had to get it myself to decide.
I first used the mat without doing the sea salt thing and it was slippery as soon as my hands or feet started to sweat. I then followed the vague instructions using sea salt and it was better but not much. THEN BAM! I SAW THE VIDEO AND DID IT WITH A PILE OF SEA SALT AND USED RUBBER GLOVES TO RUB IT HARD INTO THE MAT WITH A LITTLE VINEGAR AND WATER, I USED THE BRUSH TO SWEEP THE SEA SALT BACK INTO A PILE TO RUB OVER OTHER PARTS OF THE MAT. RINSE WITH WATER AND LEFT IN SUN TO DRY.
It's grippy now and a great mat that keeps getting grippier by the weeks. I practice everyday sometimes twice a day. I sweat alot too. I use the mat without a towel until I start sweating then I put a mat towel (Namastay mat towel med size) on it to soak up the sweat. The mat is a very good mat but is as others have said very heavy, the only drawback. I find that inversions are easier when doing it on this mat than on others. I also own Jade Harmony and Giam mats. I recommend those who have no problem replacing mats every year to get the Jade harmony or Lululemon The Mat if they practice everyday multiple times a day. For me I rather have a mat that took a little work to get it working and last much longer and get better with time so I'm stick with Manduka.
This mat protects my spine in Garbha Pindasana. No other mat or doubling up of mats ever did.
It's not just a mat, it's a landing pad. It stays put to catch me with every landing. Which makes me feel safe.
And that's when I can REALLY do my asana practice!
I bought The Black Mat about a year and a half ago. The first I used my mat I noticed it was very slippery. I understand there is a film as a first layer. If you are an avid yogi you'll break it in sooner and experience what I called the 'moment of truth'. I continuously practiced on my mat regardless of the slipperiness. After 2 weeks of continuous effort attending 5 times a week I had finally felt my feet and hands sink in the mat. I like to think of it as someone placing their hands on a memory foam mattress. It was absolutely wonderful. After that day, it not only made me want to practice more often but I was excited. Every time I end class and roll my mat I really do appreciate the comfort it gives me. It maybe pricey for some, however it is defiantly worth the investment. After a year and a half, it still feels like it did after breaking it in. Very durable. It’s a perfect gift for any yogi.
I was out looking for another $30 mat, I'm 6-3 and I wanted longer than the usual 68 to 75 inch length. I found this one at a local Yoga studio in the 85 inch length. Arrgh, what a price! Hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, and bought it. It's great, The thickness and support is perfect. I've had it a week and the smell is very subdued now, after use, washing and a couple nights unrolled on the balcony. I'm 62 years old. Anything I buy now, motorcycle or mat, only needs to hang in another 30 years or so. I expect this mat will do fine.
