Oh. My. God.I started practicing hot yoga/vinyasa earlier this year and began with a cheap $7 "drawer-liner" mat. After only one month in, this mat started to degrade, and I knew that if I was to practice regularly, which I was planning on doing, I shouldn't keep throwing money into cheap mats that start coming apart after only a few weeks. After much research, I decided on Manduka's PROlite Mat. Oh. My. God. The difference was immense; I did not have the faintest clue what my practice was missing until I stepped onto the PROlite. There is just the right amount of cushioning, stickiness (on both sides!), and weight. For driving to and from class, it isn't too heavy. Yes, it's heavier than the drawer liner, but for the quality and comfort, weight truly is a non-issue.
As others have mentioned, it does take a little breaking in to increase the tackiness of the top side. I skipped the salt rub, so it took me about six to eight classes to be comfortable in downward dog. I typically start my classes without a towel, and as the sweat starts pouring, I will put a towel down and use it for the remainder of the class. [PS. Both the Yogitoes and eQua towels are amazing for a hot practice]. The bottom side does not budge during practice, which is a problem I had with the previous mat.
I have since bought another mat for my bestie!
One last thing to note is the Lifetime Guarantee that comes with this mat. I mean, a guarantee that covers normal wear and tear for a lifetime? I don't think I can ask for anything better. With practicing 4-5 times a week for several months now, this mat still looks brand new. I love this thing and would recommend it to anyone! Thanks, Manduka! This mat is certainly worth the investment.
