A patented horizontal elastic band holds the book closed and allows you to hold a pen or pencil in place as well. In the greatest Italian papermaking tradition, the inner pages are wonderful to write on, archival quality, and acid-free and chlorine-free to boot!

This is a beautiful little journal. The faux leather cover is soft and sturdy. The elastic is great for holding a pen as well as keeping the book closed. The paper on the inside is lined (which I prefer). There are small cues or decorations on every other page ("Today I will #practice _____" or "Joy takes practice" for example.) I like the overall feel of this journal - it is a joy to write in.
