To Store: Roll The Black Mat with the top side (fabric-finish) facing outwards. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.
To Break In: The surface texture of The Black Mat PRO improves with use. Our customers have found that the best way to “break in” their mat is to use it on a daily basis. Another trick is to sprinkle coarse sea salt over your mat, use just a spritz of water or dampen with a cloth, scrub it down with a stiff scrub brush, and air dry in the sunshine.
To Clean: We recommend using Manduka Mat Renew or any non-solvent household cleaner and a damp cloth or sponge. Hang to dry in the sunshine. DO NOT clean your mat with a garden hose, put in the bathtub or shower, put it in the washing machine, or use a vacuum cleaner - it may break the machine and ruin your mat!
If you are ever unsure of a cleaning method, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for the best recommendations and advice for cleaning.
Manduka PRO series yoga mats, designed to last a lifetime (or two), curb the amount of PVC mats that enter landfills every year and reduces overall mat consumption. Also, during the manufacturing of most PVC products, toxic emissions may be released into the air. However, PRO series mats are manufactured through a process that ensures no toxic emissions are released into the atmosphere. The Black Mat is certified safe for human contact by OEKO-TEX, an environmental certification agency in Europe for the textile industry.

I'm an artist by trade, very visual, and I own other more brightly colored Manduka mats. Before getting this Pro Drift, I'd often find myself scrutinizing my mat, wondering if I was really happy with the color, scanning for specks of dirt and dust that were collecting on it. Am I a little OCD, maybe! But, I decided I wanted to find a mat that would disappear into my practice.
The color and length of the Pro Drift mat are wonderful. I was hesitant about getting the 85 inch mat, but it makes my practice more flowing and free. I was worried that I might encroach in other people's space at the studio, but it doesn't overlap anyone else's marks at all. One thing I really like is that I barely have to think about repositioning myself on the mat while transitioning to new poses. I also like that my hands and feet remain on the mat in cobra, pigeon, and other extended length poses.
I don't have to think about color. I don't have to think about how hard the floor is. I don't have to think about whether or not the mat is too slippery or too sticky. I don't have to think much about where I am on the mat or how to reposition for the next asana. Instead, I can focus on the most important aspects of the practice: breathing, correct position, alignment, and internal peace. this mat has helped encourage all of this. I couldn't ask for more--or less--from a mat.
Got it, I love it! although it is heavier than the PurpleLite...I do love its smooth surface, nonslip and firm, yet cushioned...I love it...can't wait to show it off! I don't think I have even seen any at the studio yet! I'll be sure to send folks your way.
Yesterday my yogui friends gave me a Manduka mat as a birthday gift. Today im so happy because i will use it for the first time :)
Its gonna be a great experience!!!
Never a slip on a Manduka Black Mat no matter how hot and sweaty my Forrest class gets. Never need extra padding for bony elbows or shoulders, either. I've got two Black mats butted together in my home practice room, bought an olive lite mat for my wife's Rasamaya practice, and now a Black Magic for a daughter beginning her yoga study. Thoroughly reliable and trustworthy products sold and supported by a friendly and helpful company.
I cannot even begin to describe the awesomeness of this mat! I have it permanently rolled out in my bedroom so that I can get onto it whenever I feel like. Whether I am practicing a vigorous vinyasa or just have a pre bedtime stretch, this mat meets my needs for comfort & grip.
Sadly, this mat is incredibly heavy to lug around with me to classes or when I'm traveling. For that purpose, I own the Manduka eko mat and although it's fantastic, once you've experienced the Black Mat Pro, there is just never going to be a mat that is quite good enough!
I bought this in the DRIFT color combo and I have to say that the lack of color really helps me focus on my practice and not on the color of my mat. The other reviewer really nailed this aspect of the mat. It is a big larger and heavier than I am used to but I no longer need to put a blanket under my knee because of discomfort - a nice, thick mat!
