Dual Layer Technology for optimal combination of grip, durability & slip-resistance.
Grip & Durability (Top Layer): ‘Orange Peel’ surface texture is naturally grippy, closed cell keeps out moisture (sweat) from seeping into the mat and breeding bacteria for better durability.
Stretch-resistant Scrim: Made from biodegradable cotton and polyester blend; Binds top/bottom layer together with heating process, eliminating need for toxic glues.
Natural & Biodegradable: Made from biodegradable, non-Amazon harvested tree rubber with non-toxic foaming agents and non-azo dyes.
To Clean: We recommend using Manduka Mat Restore or a diluted organic cider vinegar wash (50/50) and a damp cloth or sponge. It is recommended that you DO NOT put the eKO SuperLite mat in the washing machine, as it will encourage the material to break down (biodegrade).
To Store: Do not leave the mat exposed to excessive amounts of sunlight. If wet, allow the mat to dry before rolling up. It is recommended that the mat be folded only when traveling; the mat is best stored rolled.
Through Manduka's manufacturing process, the eKO Series mats are 99% latex free, and safe to use for people with latex sensitivities. However, if you know you are sensitive to even traces of latex then we recommend you purchase from our PRO Series yoga mats.
The eKO SuperLite Mat is made from sustainably harvested tree rubber. Unlike other rubber mats available today, the foaming agents used to create the eKO SuperLite are non-toxic. What this means is that no toxic chemicals have gone into the manufacturing process to soften rubber; and therefore, when the eKO SuperLite mat is disposed of and biodegrades, it will not leave behind a toxic residue. And instead of using synthetic polyester for reinforcement, we have chosen to use a blend of polyester and natural cotton.

I love love LOVE this mat! I take it with me to class and lay it on top of the studio/gym-provided mat. Not only does this give me a consistent, absolutely non-slip surface on which to practice but the mat acts as a hygienic barrier; I never have to be up close and personal with the odorous ghosts left by the multitude of yogis and yoginis who came and downward dogged before me.
I love the mat's lightness and that I can fold it up quite compactly, to about half the size shown here: 9" x 14", more or less. It fits perfectly in my bag, is way more practical than lugging around a rolled mat like a machine gun, and I can bop around town nicely in undetected yoga chick fashion. :)
Thank you for a fine product, Manduka!
This mat is super awesome! Just bought one for my girlfriend, and she is in love with it! She folds it up into her bag. Now she's always prepared for an asana throwdown! :) I would've bought one too, except you only have it in regular size. 5 out 5 stars! Would give it 10 out of 5 stars if you had larger size. :)
Nothing else like it on the market (trust me, I've looked). Folds up to about the size of a large sweatshirt (so it's not going to fit in a small purse - but a large purse, yes). Very grippy surface, which is great for yoga, but not so great for trying to stuff it into an already-snug backpack. I have to put it into a place bag first before sliding it into my bag - but that's not a problem for me.
Alas, no single mat is going to be perfect... while this mat is probably the best travel mat out there, it offers nearly no cushioning - but Manduka tells you this going in. I throw a blanket over the mat during my non-sweaty yoga classes to provide extra-cushioning.
Overall however, this mat does everything it advertises.
Warning - it does have a strong natural rubber smell - but again, I think if you read the reviews on this mat, you know that going in.
I travel frequently for work and wanted something I could pack in a carry-on that would be more effective than some old towels on the floor.
This mat is the ideal solution. The traction is great, it fits perfectly in my suitcase and has provided a great surface for me to do yoga and other body weight workouts.
Great job Manduka!
My love for my yoga mat cannot be expressed in words, sweat or prayer.
It does have a rubbery scent, but it doesn't bother me at all. I've already brought it to it's first class and christened it for a good hour.
On my last adventure to Long Island, I folded it up and put it nicely into my duffel bag, making it much easier to bring on the ferry from CT to NY. I practiced on the beach and it was perfect for unpacking and doing some asanas in the sunlight.
This is a great product! Especially if your a travel fanatic like myself, and don't like taking to long to put stuff in your Cessna!
Absolutely awesome lightweight mat!
I have been looking for a lighter mat for lunchtime ashtanga, without looking like a ratty yogi if I have to go directly to a meeting afterwards. I chanced on this mat when I rented it at one of the places I practice at. Sold!
True, it does smell like rubber. Try airing it out before using and in between as much as possible.
Even my ashtanga instructor commented on my mat today -- and I'm sure she's seen a LOT of mats!
I purchased this mat to accompany me to my bikram yoga class on Mondays and it grips BEAUTIFULLY with the Manduka yoga towel. Even in a room heated to 105 degrees, this mat did not slip on the carpet.
However, I did try it once at my boyfriend's house, when my lotion seeped out of my skin from sweat, and I nearly slipped into Hanumanasana! I easily fixed that with, again, my yoga towel. No biggie.
Despite the claim that it folds to the size of a large sweatshirt, I managed to fold it down to a thick book, which makes traveling on a city bus much easier, since now I simply carry a duffel bag to bikram.
This is my everyday mat and it is superb. In a world where everyone and everything is trying to bog us down with "stuff" this is a splendid solution- less is more.
I'm not convinced cushioning from a mat increases comfort once you condition your mind to rule your body. Moreso, I find the thickness (or lack thereof) helps the body communicate with touch points on the ground, enhancing my practice. Thick mats now feel 'numb'.
Used this mat for many forms, including hot (w/towel) and nothing compares.
Inexpensive, lightweight and folds (!), the Manduka Superlight is the finest mat available.
Enjoy in good health, namaste!
I bought this mat 3 years ago and I'm still using it. I have another mat and I just put this mat on top. I really love this mat as it's super grip, no bad smell from my sweat, easy to clean. Strongly recommended.
I used my new travel mat this morning for my practice to test it out for my upcoming trip and am so encouraged! For once I am going to head out on a trip and NOT blow my practice :)
It's thin, yes, but just as grippy as my Black Mat - which is the one thing I was most worried about. I tried it right on my laminate flooring - no padding - to give it the full test. I was able to do my entire Ashtanga practice with just one modification - I skipped rolling onto my toes going into upward dog. I also added some padding for shoulder/head stands which is normal for me anyway.
I've loved all the Manduka items I've purchased, but I 'heart' this travel mat which will help me make sure I do my practice daily - wherever I am.
This is the only mat I use traveling between 21 classes a week hot and not ...I have suggested this mat to all my students and I believe the connection to the Earth makes this mat superior. I just ordered the poppy color and expect my second chakra to dance!
I don't need a thick mat--this one keeps me from slipping all over the place on parquet, lying on hotel carpet, or scraping my knees on mountain stone.
I ordered two--one for myself, and one for my fit mom. One of them showed up in the wrong color, but who cares? Slides easily into the front pocket of my suitcase and is the only mat I use for travel, class, or at home.
Perfect mat for taking to the gym to put over their mats while I stretch, or use a foam roller. The mat is incredibly light and easy to pack in to a gym bag - takes about the same space as a hand towel.
Very grippy when used on a wood floor. Highly recommended for traveling, perfect for taking to a hotel gym, or using in your room, on your balcony, or even at the pool!
I have two of the black mat pro (one for the studio, one for home), which I love! I wanted to love this travel mat as much, but I don't. I like its convenient size/weight, and super sticky surface. I find, however, that the bottom isn't sticky enough. As I jump through vinyasa, the mat often crumples up, even if my feet don't drag, it's as though the mat is unwilling to let go of my toes as they press down and then lift into the air. I feel that as long as I'm putting pressure into the mat, it is supportive and won't slip around, but if I move quickly, it usually wants to move with me.
Thank you so much for your review, Saretta! It is great to hear that you are enjoying your Black Mat PRO. We are also happy that you have purchased an eKO SuperLite! The eKO SuperLite is great for travelling, but some yogis do find that since it is so light (only 2lbs) that it does not stay as rooted to the ground as a Black Mat PRO. However, it is still good for the occasional use while traveling because of its ability to be super portable!
Buying a second...
Purchased the acai colored eko travel mat when I first began yoga, this past July. I had never owned a real* mat, but had used the very boring always normal nothing special slippery vinyl-like ones. Needless to say I searched online to find this one. I was sold on the mini size and portability, and the FACT that most other reviews stated it as "non-slip", well it lives up to these reviews.
This mat is inspiring. I walk into class and out of class with this folded and then mini-rolled into a teensy tiny bundle, tucked neatly under my arm (I get looks in packed classes when I whip/roll out from nowhere this beautiful flatter than flat travel mat). NEVER DO I STRUGGLE, BUMBLE, OR SMACK AROUND trying to position myself or my mat. Nor do I find myself slipping up closer & closer to, well, anywhere...when I lay down my mat, it stays put. Best purchase ever, best price ever, and now buying a second because my daughter just took up youth yoga and her favorite color is purple, therefore my mat has become hers overnight! Time for me to get the new Rustic red ((:
I purchased this mat to leave in my locker at the gym. It was becoming too cumbersome to drag my rolled up mat to and from the gym while riding the metro. This folds up wonderfully in the small locker that I rent and does the job in class. I get pretty sweaty and sometimes encounter some slippage but all in all this is a great mat and perfect for my needs.
Great mat! I only gave it one star not because of the quality of the mat but only because I can't use it. It's too small for me. I normally use a 85" pro and while being away from home I'd only hope to be consistent and use the same size of mat. I hope this catches the attention of manduka and they make a 85".
It was given to me as a gift from the owner of the pilates/yoga studio that I work.
For Vinyasa indeed a second mat underneath is needed. For pilates too.
I simply adore the colors (now we have two). The smell was gone after a month. Indeed it is still so sticky that my ProLite seems slippery now.
PLUS it rarely needs cleaning compared to my ProLite.
I love the travel mat just as much as my ProLite. I love that I can fold it up into my bag- it makes my subway commute soooo much lighter! I find it is great for bikram- I do use it with a yogi toe and I do hang outside to dry. This is my second travel mat, I probably do not need ti but I wanted to start to alternate so they will not wear as fast- great quality and I love the new Shade color!
I practice the traditional Ashtanga series in the Mysore style and got really tired of lugging my larger mat back and forth from my regular studio everyday so that I could attend other practices elsewhere. So, I decided to leave my big mat at the studio and purchase the easy-to-lug eKO SuperLite for all of my other yoga needs. It's been a great purchase so far. I was a little concerned that it was going to slip and slide all over the place as I moved, or that my knees where going to hate being in such close company with the ground, but I've found that the SuperLite is both surprisingly sticky and knee-friendly. I've used it for both outdoor and indoor practice and it's held up really well. I guess if I HAD to complain about something, it would be that even though I've had the SuperLite for several months and have cleaned it after use it still smells pretty rubbery.
I purchased the eKO SuperLite Travel Mat for any easy fit into my carry on suitcase. I have the Pro for home practice and ProLite for yoga classes. The SuperLite was definately light and folded up nicely into my suitcase. But it was also wonderful for yoga practice, which was a pleasant surprise. It has a secure grip and makes a great mat to keep in my car or gym bag. I'm glad I purchased it and will use it often. 5 stars!
I bought this mat for use at home and travel on carpeted floors as using my other thick mat made the surface below me too soft. I absolutely love how grippy the top is, I loved that I can get into deep postures without any risk of slipping. I was so impressed with this mat that I purchased the new eKO Mat to replace my two year old "The Mat"
Can I just say that I love love love this mat?! It has changed my feelings about travel mats completely. There are even days that it competes with my PROlite. No, you will not get the cushion of a PRO mat, but the grip is unbelievable. I love how I can feel the floor through this mat, but somehow still find comfort. It may not be ideal for postures requiring pressure between ones knee ant the floor (e.g. dragon) but there are so many other poses it is amazing for (e.g. sun salutations are a dream - no slipping!). I love this mat! I used to hate travel mats with their sliding around, bad grip, and great discomfort. I have bad knees, so I do avoid certain poses when using this mat, but I cannot believe how comfortable I am on it. I want one in every color! It is a beautiful thing and has changed my practice! <3 Thank you, Manduka!
I ordered one of these as a nearly last-minute decision to bring a mat on my recent 3-week trip in southeast Asia. So glad I did! It fit well into my luggage, and the inspiring red (swoon, I think?) color boosted my mood, even on days that I didn't use the mat. It's nice and sticky, too.
It does slip around a little on wood floors, which generally isn't a problem when I'm traveling: floors either aren't wood, or I'm likely to be doing slower, more deliberate moves. Love this mat!
I love this mat for so many reasons. Firstly I can use it in carpeted rooms, where my Prolite get's a bit squishy with the added padding. It's great for travelling too because it folds up and doesn't weigh much. I find that recently I've been using this a lot more than my Prolite. The colour is also really bright which I love. Mine didn't have the strong smell others have spoken of either. One thing that's not noted in the description is that it's stretchy laterally, but not longitudinally. This gives it a slightly different feel than other mats. It's noticeable in down-dog.
The big problem is that it is short. The mat is 5'8" long. I'm a guy of average height, and so if I'm lying on the mat either my head or feet or both are lying on the floor and not the mat. Also, some postures such as setu bandhasana are physically impossible on this mat due to the short length. Other minor issues are that the bottom is not grippy like the other Manduka mats and so it slips around on the floor a bit. As well as that, one must be careful not to fold it up for long periods. It creases and wears along any fold lines, so make sure you roll it up if you can. It also bunches up if you use it on carpet, but that's to be expected with a mat this thin and flexible. If there was a long version I'd give it five stars.
LOVE. The mat I didn't know I needed! I also own a Manduka BlackMatPro (which I use at home - and WISH I loved more, I just find it very slippery still, perhaps underuse?) and a rubber Jade Travel Mat - 1/8th inch thick which I had been using as my every day take-to-class mat. I bought the Manduka Eko SuperLite Travel Mat for an international yoga retreat vacation, even though I felt like I didn't really NEED another mat in my life - but boy I didn't know what I was missing. Folds up so light and tiny, the natural rubber offers superior grip (I'm really sweaty!). For those who say it moves around a bit on wooden floors - I've found that I actually prefer using it upside down - no slippage and I like the feel of the backside. Yes it's thin but I like feeling grounded - so i just slide a blanket under my knees when I'm putting a ton of pressure on them. I love it so much I've started using it locally at home in NYC, throwing it in my purse to go to work and hit up class on the way home - now only using my Jade on the weekends.
