• Tri Layer Technology for optimal combination of grip, durability and slip-resistance.
Grip & Durability (Top Layer): ‘Rippled water’ surface texture is naturally grippy; the sealed-cell surface keeps out moisture (sweat) from seeping into the mat and breeding bacteria for better durability.
Dual Function Cushion (Bottom Layer): Thicker, bottom layer provides lightweight cushion and excellent loft and recovery for your practice!
Stretch-resistant Scrim (Center): Stretch-resistant scrim binds the unique layers together using a heating process which eliminates the need for toxic glues.
Natural & Earth Loving: Eco-friendly yoga mat is made from biodegradable, non-Amazon harvested, and natural tree rubber with non-toxic foaming agents and non-azo dyes.
To Clean: The eKO mat can be cleaned by wiping down the mat with Manduka’s Mat Restore Spray (a vinegar based solution) or a 50/50 mixture of water and organic apple cider vinegar. It is recommended that you DO NOT put the eKO mat in the washing machine, as it will encourage the material to break down (biodegrade). DO NOT soak or submerge in water and DO NOT use any type of soap for cleaning, as it will compromise the performance and integrity of the mat.
To Store: Do not leave the mat exposed to excessive amounts of sunlight. If wet, allow the mat to dry before rolling up.
Through Manduka's eco-friendly yoga mat manufacturing process, the eKO Series mats are 99% latex free, and safe to use for people with latex sensitivities. However, if you know you are sensitive to even traces of latex then we recommend you purchase from our PRO Series yoga mats.
The eKO Lite Mat is a natural yoga mat made from sustainably harvested tree rubber. Unlike other rubber mats available today, the foaming agents used to create the eKO Lite are non-toxic. What this means is that no toxic chemicals have gone into the manufacturing process to soften rubber; when the eKO Lite mat is disposed of and biodegrades, it will not leave behind a toxic residue. Additionally, instead of using synthetic polyester for reinforcement, we have chosen to use a blend of polyester and natural cotton. According to both customer feedback and published yoga mat reviews, the eKO Lite Mat is a high performance mat that is also good for the environment.

After much research, and months of deliberation, I have found my dream mat. As a practitioner of Hatha/Vinyasa-style yoga, I really needed an upgrade from my 10+-year old $12 sticky mat (Farewell, old friend) which started to slip, squeak, and bunch with more active flows... Combing through all the reviews on Amazon.com and the like, I can say this: While so many report a slippery mat, I simply do not notice any issue with the grip at all. I think those folks who find this mat "too slippery" are just a bit -if not entirely- one sandwich shy of a picnic (don't worry, I am still working on the whole "observing without judgement" thing). In fact, The grip, right out of the wrapper felt amazing and very grippy to me and I know I will become spoiled by this while in down dog, for sure! Some people also commonly complain about the smell. Well, I can tell you that it smells like, well... RUBBER. It is not offensively strong, in my opinion, but it probably is a good idea to leave it unrolled in a well-ventilated area until it off-gasses to your suit your preference and/or sensitivity. I am sure wiping the mat with the recommended 50/50 solution of water and vinegar also aids in the smell and potentially "slippery" nature of this mat. But if you are deliberating about quality, don't. This mat will prove itself. And in case you are thinking of a $12 cheapo version elsewhere, may I present a very relevant quote I heard recently: "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." Get this mat; you won't be sorry. Namaste.
this mat is grippy but it smells of rubber
UPDATE. This is an updated, new and improved verison of the old eko light. I recently purchased Eko Lite in Swoon at my yoga studio.Swoon is a much softer lovely coral on the Eko compared to bright red Swoon of the Pro. I got a yogietoes towel too for hot n sweaty vinyasa classes. Wow.I have not had to even unroll my towel. Yes my hands slip a tiny bit on the smooth surface but I am still breaking it in. and yeh, I keep it unrolled everynight and the smell is still strong. Be kind to your knees and spine, the 4mm is worth the extra 20 bucks. 1 week and we have fast tracked to committed serious relationship. This is my SOUL MAT. I love this mat. We practice several times a day together. We are in it for the long haul.
I love this Mat!
This mat is by far the grippiest mat I have ever owned. It is thin enough to connect you solidly to the ground, but cushy enough to be comfortable. two things to note: 1) Only 1 side of the mat is grippy. when I first started to use the mat, I didn't notice the difference in texture and accidentally used the "bottom" of the mat. Although still tacky, my hands definitely slipped a little in down dog, which might explain the other reviews that comment on the mat's lack of grip. Not true as long as you use the "top" of the mat! 2) the mat does smell like Rubber. But it shouldn't come as a surprise since it is made of Rubber, afterall.
I seriously love this mat! Several people mentioned "soul mat" in reviews and I had no idea what they were talking about but I wanted to find out. I originally ordered the LiveON mat and didn't really love it. The return process was hassle free and I got my new eKO Lite mat just 3 days later. The grip on this mat is truly amazing and meets every expectation I had! I love the color and cushion too! It was love at first sight! I do believe I have found my soul mat.
