As a "sweaty yogini" I have tried the gamut of yoga towels, rugs, etc and as such, I would consider myself something of a connoisseur on the subject. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this rug!
I love this rug! Finally no slipping. Exciting for my hands and feet to touch!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this rug. When I sweat, I sweat! And I've found that this rug is absolutely perfect to keep my hands from slipping in long Down Dogs!!!
Could not practice without this rug!! I bought the Shama Yoga Rug back in July, when the weather was 100 degrees or more outside, and my yoga studio was being eco-friendly with the air conditioning! :) When its humid or hot, my hands and feet sweat buckets, and this rug is super absorbent. The raised ridges help keep your hands and feet in place also. I got the green rug, and it's a beautiful color. I have also machine washed and machine dried it numerous times, and its held up very well. The rug does still shed some fibers, but not enough to complain about. A great price, too, for a high-quality product such as this.
I could not practice with out this rug. I sweat so much that practice on just my mat was impossible before I got this rug. It makes it very easy to to stay straight and balanced thanks to the ridges, not to mention the extra grip they provide. It really helped me bring my practice to another level.
I have the Black Pro Mat and love it. The mat is comfortable, but I like color so I lay these rugs on top of my mat; I alternate between the rugs and my equa towels. As mentioned by another reviewer, the rug keeps you aligned and I really like that. These rugs are great, I have them in acai and moss; they are both beautiful colors and very comfortable . If you want to be well aligned or you simply need to add color to your practice, then you can't go wrong with these rugs. Practical and beautiful, I highly recommend them.
This rug has really improved my ability to go through my practice. The ridges are really great for stopping slippage in downward dog and other poses. I have the rug paired with a cheaper mat and it really saves the day. I'm a relatively light sweater but haven't had any issues with slipping or really needing to wet it down. It also lays very flat right out of the box!
I was having major issues with sliding in downward facing dog in my very warm yoga studio...I got this rug in hopes that it would help a little...turns out it helped A LOT. I no longer have to worry...the only draw back? lint. But its a small price to pay to get the most out of my practice. thank you!
I really love the Shama Yoga Rug! I'm new to yoga and started doing Ashtanga in February. I bought the eQua plus towel and the Shama Yoga Rug and prefer the rug over the towel! It's a bit heavier, so I don't have the problem of the the rug moving when I transition between poses as I do with the eQua plus (which I know could be the result of my being new to yoga, but thought it's worth mentioning). I also felt more comfortable with my practice because I didn't slip at all. I first used it right out of the box and found it to be a bit hard and rough on my hands and feet. It softened after the first machine wash, so I was happy. I machine washed and dried 2 more times (always by itself with nothing else in the washer or dryer) then noticed some of the threads unraveling in 5 different places. :( I then decided to air it out between classes and wash it weekly instead. I've received many compliments on it: ladies like the acai color and one guy liked that it's so large and goes beyond edges of the mat. It does shed a little, but this doesn't bother me too much. I use it more than I do the eQua plus, but took a star off the rating because the threads unraveling (snags) seemed to happen too prematurely. That said, I'd probably get another one if it came out in a nice color...only because it works so well for my practice. One more thing: Manduka's customer service is awesome! Love that they ship to Guam at relatively reasonable rates and their Customer Care Reps (esp Stacie) are very prompt and courteous.
this rug is great! I have a bunch of them and use a different one every day. not so heavy as to be a pain to bike with, not so flimsy as to shift and bunch up on the mat. it's sturdy and survives repeated washing, no problem. the ridges are great (a way to cheat without cheating), but may keep your hands from being completely flat; if that's an issue flip the thing upside down. previous versions had a tiny loop with a logo in one corner, which i liked. the current version has this giant embroidered label right in your face. one star off for this design deterioration.
