Donation-based Yoga @ Urban Flow

Urban Flow is really a simple affair.

There's no yoga fashion boutique, no fancy soy candles for sale. The few things they sell are fairly utilitarian in nature. You bring your own bottle of water (preferably in a reusable container... there is a filtered water dispenser installed.) It's all about the yoga. You pay what you can. As Rusty says, "If you got no money, you come in." Simple as that.

Now, that doesn't mean you don't pay. It means you pay what you can. They suggest a donation. They have parameters. But you'll never get turned away for lack of funds. And on top of that, Urban Flow offers classes specifically catered to the greater community, like Eric Kobrick's Yoga En Espanol on Sunday afternoons. This month, they are refusing to charge a penny for weekday noon classes. Not to mention utterly free workshops for beginners, every other Sunday, many of which are taught by Rusty himself. That's right. For the price of nothing, you can take your very first yoga class, for free, with Rusty Wells. How cool is that?

Vote for Street Yoga

Street Yoga is a contender in Pepsi's Refresh Project to receive a $25,000 grant to support their program. Join Manduka in giving Street Yoga a boost by voting each day in August!

Street Yoga provides yoga and wellness classes to youth and families struggling with homelessness, poverty, addiction, abuse, and trauma. The classes take place at sites already serving these populations, such as shelters and drop-in centers. Street Yoga has been operating in Portland since 2002 with very positive results and recently opened a Seattle branch. Participants report on our quarterly evaluations that they feel more focused, less stressed, and happier after participating in Street Yoga programs.

"A lot of people up here are depressed from drugs and want to get in touch with themselves. And that's what yoga's doing." - A Street Yoga practitioner

Midsummer Night's Sangha for Yoga Gives Back

On July 25th, yogis dedicated their time and bodies in support of Yoga Gives Back. Manduka Ambassador, Sarah Ezrin, and yoga teachers, Mary Beth LaRue and Jocelyn Kay Lee joined forces to lead a donation flow class. Following the class, yogis mixed and mingled with one another. Donated items were auctioned off to support micro-financing organizations in India. This event was Karma Yoga in its purest form- every breath, every asana, and every gift was given benevolently and selflessly in the service of others.
