Students from Kennedy High School’s “Culture through Movement” yoga class in Chicago participated in a yoga mala as their final group practice for the school year, where they completed 108 sun salutations. Throughout the mala students received nutritious snacks and teas along with smoothie demonstrations and conversations about nutrition. Anna Argeropoulos (500 hour RYT) was invited to lead a round of sun salutations, chanting, meditation and readings with students. Following the mala students gathered for a healthy, home-made vegan meal as a final group gathering for our departing senior students. The mala raised several hundred dollars to begin a scholarship fund to support students who intend to pursue yoga teacher certification. The mala also provided an opportunity for the administration to view the students’ practice and garner greater support and understanding from them for our program.

Manduka was happy to donate yoga mats to the students. This class made an impact in the lives of those who participated both physically and mentally and has influenced many to continue their practice on their own and several to pursue yoga teacher certification.
