I have two of these blocks and are absolutely in love with them since they are so versatile and wonderful to the touch. I use them for everything where I need support, and then some. I even sleep with them, mostly because they are the perfect support for my back when reading with a pillow propped against them and because it keeps them safe from my cats.
The texture is absolutely soft under my fingers, like some kind of velvet. Despite this softness they never become slippery, even when my hands are dripping. Thus, I dare trust them completely no matter what I demand of them, which is nice.
If you find they smell mouldy, that is the natural scent of cork. Personally, I find it earthy and grounding just like rubber but your mileage may vary.
The only "bad" thing about these blocks is the sheer size of them. They are not the kind of blocks I carry with me, because they are like two dictionaries in size and weight. On the other hand, it is the size and weight that makes them my favourite blocks ever.
