What is the difference between the PRO and the eKO Series of Manduka Yoga Mats? top
The Manduka PRO Series is known as the Taj Mahal of yoga mats, the most sustainable mat on the market for 10+ years. Made of an eco-certified PVC material and manufactured emissions free, this mat is a durable eco-friendly choice. The surface texture is a fabric-like finish that is slip resistant, even when wet from light perspiration. Manduka PRO mats are the thickest densest mats on the market designed to provide extra cushion for comfort and joint support. Backed with a Lifetime Guarantee, The PRO Series is designed to last a lifetime or two.
The Manduka eKO, made of all natural tree rubber, is the next generation eco yoga mat. The eKO Series is our biodegradable line providing superior slip resistance, and best for light to medium perspiration. The top surface of the mat has a closed cell durable surface and non-slip sea grass texture while the bottom of the mat is open cell to provide the perfect amount of cushion. We are proud to say the Manduka’s eKO mat is manufactured without any toxic glues or foaming agents and is more durable than other rubber mats found in the marketplace.
In an effort to create very hygienic yoga mats, Manduka mats have a closed-cell surface. This means that your mat will not absorb any moisture- due to this unique feature, the mat will not absorb perspiration as other yoga mats on the market do. This allows Manduka’s mats to be hygienic and have a longer lifespan. An alternate yoga mat might absorb all perspiration that you experience during your practice; the drawback to this is that moisture will build up inside of the mat.
I know I need a new mat, how do I know which one is for me? top
Everyone deserves a soul mat! A yoga practice is personal, and so are the qualities of the perfect yoga mat. With the right mat beneath your feet, you will let go of any distractions and focus solely on your practice.
In order to meet the individual needs of our customers, each Manduka high performance yoga mat is designed with a unique set of features, and we’re confident that we have the one for you.
What is the difference between The Black Mat® PRO and the PROlite? top
These mats are actually more similar than they are different! Both the Black Mat PRO and PROlite feature the same fabric-like finish, superior cushion, slip-resistant, non-sticky surface and a lifetime guarantee. They have been Manduka’s top-selling high performance mats for 10+ years! So what sets them apart? The differences are found in their weight, thickness and color. The PROlite was designed for yogis who want the look and feel of the Black Mat PRO, but prefer a lighter version built to go everywhere. Available in several passion-inspiring colors, the PROlite offers superior quality and comfort, just like big brother Black Mat PRO, but weighs in at just 4 lbs.
Which side of the mat should I use? top
The “top” of the mat has a slip resistant fabric-like finish and a woven mat “frog” label in the top right-hand corner. The bottom has a dot pattern texture which prevents the mat from sliding on the bottom surface.
How do I get my mat to lie flat after it has been rolled up? top
If you store your mat rolled up, try rolling it so the top surface is facing outwards. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.
How do I “break in” my new Black Mat PRO? top
Use it! Our customers have found that the best way to “break in” their mat is to use it on a daily basis.
Another trick is to leave it in the sunshine for an afternoon or sprinkle sea salt on the top surface of the mat, dampen with a cloth, and scrub it with a stiff scrub brush.
I have left my mat unrolled, but it still has an odor – now what? top
In addition to keeping the mat unrolled, you can scrub the mat with a 50/50 mixture of water and organic cider vinegar solution. Manduka Mat Renew will also do the trick – a certified organic cleaning solution with essential oils specially formulated to keep your yoga mat clean, disinfected and smelling fresh.
How do I clean my Black Mat PRO? What do I clean it with? top
Lightly scrub the mat with a soft brush, cloth or sponge using a gentle household cleaner or specially formulated mat wash, like Manduka’s Mat Renew.
Wipe clean with clean water and air dry in sunshine. Do not put your mat in a washing machine or dryer!
What is the mat made of? top
All of our mats have been designed by yoga teachers for function, comfort and longevity. The PRO line is made from a blend of polyester and eco-certified PVC.
Is the Black Mat PRO environmentally conscious? top
We consider a PRO purchase an environmentally conscious choice. PVC in general is not environmentally friendly. However, because our mats are designed for durability and last a lifetime (or two!) they rarely end up in landfills like inexpensive sticky mats.
One of the hazards of PVC is that it seeps toxins once in a landfill and that toxins are often released during the manufacturing process. We are happy to report that that the PRO manufacturing process is certified emissions free and therefore has less of an impact on the environment.
Eco-responsibility starts by reducing consumption. The product’s durability will drastically reduce the amount of yoga mats bought and thrown out into landfills. It also allows people to donate the mats when they are ready for something new to people who may not be able to afford a new yoga mat.
Is there latex in the PRO series? top
No. Manduka PRO Series mats are latex-free. Latex is a by-product of natural rubber which may be hypo-allergenic to some people.
How do I keep from slipping on my recently purchased Black Mat PRO? top
There is a break-in period that everyone, including those who are on our mats, has to go through before the thin film wears off and the slipping is almost completely eliminated. Typically, it takes about three months of daily practice and a "little" bit of slipping during that time so that the friction of feet and hands wears on the mat.
Once the mat is broken in, if you sweat a lot, there still might be a slight amount of slip in some standing poses and poses like down dog, but if you keep your awareness and energy moving towards, instead of away, from your center of gravity, the "slippage" stops and one can stay firm in the pose. Actually, a little slippage comes in handy on some poses, for instance shoulder stand or plow pose, when it's nice to allow the head to slide and the neck to lengthen.
How are Manduka’s Black Mat PRO and PROlite eco-friendly? top
We consider a PRO purchase an environmentally conscious choice. Eco-responsibility starts by reducing consumption. Because Manduka PRO mats are designed for durability and last a lifetime (or two!) they rarely end up in landfills like inexpensive sticky mats. The product’s durability will drastically reduce the amount of yoga mats that end up in landfills.
Manduka’s Black Mat PRO and PROlite, while made from PVC, are manufactured with environmentally responsible processes. There are no toxic emissions released into the environment during the manufacturing of our PRO mats (a typical environmental hazard with PVC products).
Additionally, OEKO-TEX, a European association for textile industries, certifies the Manduka Black Mat PRO and PROlite are safe and free of harmful substances

What is the difference between the eKO mat and other eco-friendly yoga mats on the market? top
eKO - Durability and Performance
Typical rubber eco-yoga mats are generally spongy, due to the process that natural tree rubber goes through to make mats and the foaming agents that are used. Because they are spongy, the durability of the mat is compromised. Also, most eco-yoga mats decompose fairly quickly and become either brittle or overly elastic, especially when exposed to humidity and/or sunlight.
In order to solve these problems, Manduka created the eKO mat with dual layers - each having unique material properties to provide superior durability and the ultimate combination of cushion and grip. The top layer, which is denser and more durable than typical rubber, is engineered as the top side of the mat to provide maximum performance and longevity. The bottom layer, which is less dense and more sponge-like, is engineered as the bottom side of the mat to provide comfort and a layer of cushion and give.
Also, unlike TPE and other petro-based chemical mats, the eKO mat does not have “memory” from being rolled up and will lay completely flat without the corners rolling.
eKO - the Next Generation of Eco-responsible Manufacturing
The eKO mat is made from 100% natural, non-Amazon forested tree rubber. Aside from durability and performance, what sets the eKO mat apart is the care taken during the manufacturing process. Unlike typical rubber eco-mats available today, the foaming agents used to create the eKO mat are non-toxic. This means no toxic chemicals have gone into the manufacturing process to make rubber “spongy” therefore when the eKO mat is disposed of and biodegrades, it will leave behind no toxic residue.
Is the eKO mat the same thickness as The Black Mat PRO? Is it the same density so it will feel indistinguishable, or is it different? top
Both the eKO mat and The Black Mat PRO have been designed and engineered by yoga teachers to provide the ultimate surface on which to practice yoga. However, due to the different properties of the materials from which they are made, only the PRO Series comes with a Lifetime Guarantee.
Today, there is still no mat on the market that can compare to The Black Mat PRO in terms of durability, comfort and performance. In terms of thickness, The Black Mat PRO is approximately 0.04 inches or 1 mm thicker than the eKO mat (5mm), although this can vary slightly from manufacturing runs. The Black Mat PRO, made from environmentally certified PVC*, has a uniform density throughout for comfort and firmness.
The eKO mat has been engineered to be the most durable natural rubber yoga mat available on the market today. The eKO mat was designed with two layers of different densities to simultaneously provide comfort and durability. . When compared to The Black Mat® PRO, the top layer of the eKO mat is firmer and the bottom layer is softer, hence, it has a different feel.
Ask for a sample swatch today so you can feel the difference for yourself!
How does the eKO mat differ from TPE and other petro-chemical based eco-yoga mats? top
TPE mats, which are petro-chemical based, tend to wear out quickly contributing inorganic materials to our nation’s landfills. Also, the glue that is used to bond the TPE surfaces is toxic and has an odor that doesn't dissipate. The eKO mat distinguishes itself in its durability, natural materials, and it is scent free after the initial break-in period.
Is the eKO mat available in different sizes and thicknesses? top
Yes, Manduka is proud to currently offer the eKO mat four distinct sizes:
- eKO Mat - 26” x 71” [66 x 180 cm] size with 5mm thickness (MSRP: $76.00)
- eKO Mat - 26” x 79” [66 x 200 cm] size with 5mm thickness (MSRP: $88.00)
- eKO Mat - 26” x 85” [66 x 215 cm] size with 5mm thickness in the color “Moss” (MSRP: $94.00) *discontinued
- eKO Lite™ Mat - 24” x 68” [61 x 173 cm] size with 3mm thickness (MSRP: $46.00)
- eKO SuperLite™ Travel Mat - 24” x 68” [61 x 173 cm] with 1.5mm thickness (MSRP: $39.00)
The **eKO** mat 5mm is more durable and offers the most cushion. The **eKO Lite** mat is designed for the yogi-on-the go who wants to travel lightly. The **eKO SuperLite** Travel mat is designed for that yogi that wants to fold their mat and take it everywhere they go.
Does the eKO mat oxidize like other rubber mats on the market? top
Oxidation (or changes in color) is a natural byproduct of all natural products which are designed to decompose. By storing your eKO mat in a dry environment out of sunlight you can ensure a long life of use. To remove any film or discoloration on the surface of your mat caused by the oxidation process, use a light scrub with a solution of 50/50 organic cider vinegar and water, or Manduka’s Mat Restore (a vinegar based solution) followed by a rinse of clear water and an air dry. DO NOT PUT YOUR MAT IN A WASHING MACHINE! We have found that over time, the color changes that occur naturally both from practice and oxidation give each eKO mat its own individual personality.
I sweat a lot! Is the eKO mat for me? top
Due to the unique properties of the eKO mat’s surface texture, it provides slip resistance with light to medium perspiration. Of course if you are known to create puddles of sweat, than we also recommend our anti-slip eQua towel or eQua Hot towel, made from eco-friendly microfiber material.
Do your eKO mats smell? Other rubber yoga mats all seem to smell. top
Due to the properties of natural rubber, all rubber mats have a certain smell. However, Manduka’s eKO mat has been engineered so that the initial scent fades over time with use. The smell will dissipate within 2-3 weeks, or sooner if you leave your mat unrolled when storing. To speed up this process, you can also wipe the mat down with a solution of 50/50 organic cider vinegar and water or Manduka’s Mat Restore (a vinegar based solution). It is important to note that the smell is natural and not a result of off-gassing from toxic chemicals.
How do you clean the eKO mat? top
The eKO mat can be cleaned by wiping down the mat with an organic mat cleaning solution. We recommend simply using a diluted organic cider vinegar wash (50/50) or Manduka’s Mat Restore (a vinegar based solution). It is recommended that you DO NOT put the eKO mat in the washing machine as it will encourage the material to biodegrade. Do not leave the mat exposed to excessive amounts of sunlight.
Will the eKO mat last as long as The Black Mat PRO? Will it wear out if used on a carpet? top
The eKO mat has been designed to provide the ultimate in durability for a natural rubber mat. Its durability is superior to any other rubber mat on the market and it is biodegradable.
As a biodegradable mat, the eKO Mat will react to natural elements such as heat or moisture, just like any biodegradable material. We typically do not recommend using the eKO Mat regularly for a Hot Yoga practice, since the heat and moisture in the studio will contribute to a faster break down of the mat. There still is no other mat on the market that will provide as much durability and comfort as The Black Mat PRO.
Also, the eKO mat will not wear out more quickly if used on carpet. With proper care, including storing the mat away from sunlight and moisture, the eKO mat is built to last.
Is the eKO mat the same weight as The Black Mat PRO? top
Weighing in at 7.0 lbs (3.18kg), the eKO mat is about the same weight as the Black Mat PRO. The eKO mat is substantial-and worth the weight!- due to the dual layer design which provides maximum cushion and durability. For the yogi-on-the-go, we offer the 3.5 lbs (1.59kg) eKOLite mat and the even lighter, more portable travel option we have the eKO SuperLite weighing in at 2.0lbs (0.91kg) .
The eKO mat is heavy – why? top
The eKO mat weighs about 7.0 lbs (3.18kg), heavy compared to a typical yoga mat, and about the same weight as the Black Mat® PRO. The eKO mat is engineered to be durable and provide a high performance surface, like the best-selling Black Mat® PRO; this is what adds to the weight. Those on the mat state it’s “worth the weight”, as the dual layer developed for the eKO mat ensures maximum cushion and longevity. For customers who want a lighter option, we offer the 3.5 lbs (1.59kg) eKO Lite and the 2.0 lbs (0.91kg) eKO SuperLite.
If I have a Black Mat PRO, why would I purchase an eKO mat? top
One reason to purchase an eKO mat is to introduce some color into your practice. Available in a variety of shades and hues, the eKO mat provides options for the yogi who wants to accessorize his or her practice. If you have a Black Mat PRO, you may also consider purchasing an eKOLite 3mm or eKO SuperLite giving you the option to travel lightly when you are jetting across town or across the country, or around the world.
What about latex allergies with rubber mats? top
Through Manduka's manufacturing process, the eKO mat is 99% latex free, and safe to use for people with latex sensitivities. However, if you know you are sensitive to even traces of latex then we recommend you purchase from our PRO Series yoga mats.

You are more than welcome to wash your eQua Towel in the washing machine on cold with like colors. We recommend wringing it out to reduce drying time. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low. - I am worried about the Wool Blanket shedding and stretching.
- What is the size of the Wool Blanket and is it heavy?
- How do I care for my new Wool Blanket?
What do you use Wool Blankets for? top
Wool blankets are commonly used for the practice of restorative yoga, prenatal and Iyengar types of yoga. They are very helpful to assist in a variety of yoga poses. They are great for any postures relating to meditation and rest as well as Savasana. The Wool Blanket is also great as a bolster substitute. The Wool Blanket can be placed underneath your knees or back during Savasana for added comfort.
What is the Recycled Wool Blanket made out of? top
The Recycled Wool Blanket fabric consists of 75% recycled wool and 25% synthetic material content. The synthetic content includes polyester, wool, and acrylic. The wool content is recycled material – textile wastes like woolen tailor cutting/hosiery cuttings/ wool – which we collect, convert into wool fiber, spin into a yarn, and weave the fabric that makes up the blanket.
I am worried about the Wool Blanket shedding and stretching. top
We have combed each Wool Blanket to prevent any shedding or pilling. The Wool Blanket is resistant to stretching, and, during your practice, its dense weave makes it more resistant to stretching. Another amazing feature of the Wool Blanket is the stitching on the edges of the Wool Blanket; this will prevent the Wool Blanket from fraying.
What is the size of the Wool Blanket and is it heavy? top
The Wool Blanket is 60”x82” (152.40cm x 208.28cm), the standard size for a blanket of its kind. The Wool Blanket weighs about 3.5lbs [1,5 kg] - just enough to provide you with a stable support while still being light enough to carry to class.
How do I care for my new Wool Blanket? top
If cared for properly the Wool Blanket can last close to a lifetime. We recommend dry cleaning the Wool Blanket. This will give the Wool Blanket the best care and allow for a prolonged lifespan. If you are going to wash the Wool Blanket we suggest hand washing or washing in a delicate cycle using mild detergents. Do not put it in the dryer; always hang dry on a line. You may also iron the Wool Blanket!

Why is a vinegar liquid base better than a water base for natural rubber mats? top
Natural rubber yoga mats break down and oxidize over time and usage. This happens with any natural rubber yoga mat on the market. Vinegar penetrates the porous nature of rubber and restores moisture to the mat while prolonging its lifespan. Vinegar also neutralizes the bacteria and odor trapped on the surface of the mat.

What are your Stainless Steel Water Bottles made of? top
The Stainless Steel Water Bottles are made of a 100% BPA free stainless steel. They do not include any inner linings or plastics. They are 100% recyclable.
Do your bottles or caps contain Bisphenol A (BPA)? top
Stainless steel naturally contains no BPA, which is one reason it is a superior material. As for the plastic tops we use only BPA free Polypropylene #5 plastic. Our Stainless Steel Water Bottle and caps are all 100% BPA free.
How do I clean and care for my Stainless Steel Water Bottles? top
For day to day cleaning, a simple rinse with warm soapy water followed by air drying with the cap off works great. Although they are dishwasher safe we recommend that you hand wash your Stainless Steel Water Bottle with a nonabrasive pad or brush for a safer and better cleaning. If an even deeper cleaning is desired you can rinse your bottle with a baking soda or vinegar solution.
What liquids can I carry in the Stainless Steel Water Bottle? top
You may carry any cold to warm liquids including juice, soda, milk or alcohol. Our Stainless Steel Water Bottle is designed to withstand deterioration caused by acids in citrus juices or soda drinks. Stainless steel is a great conductor of heat. However, we don't advise that you pour hot liquids into your canteen. Just fill up with your beverage of choice and you're good to go!
Can I put my Stainless Steel Water Bottle in the freezer? top
To ensure that your Stainless Steel Water Bottle doesn't spring a leak, you shouldn't place your canteen in the freezer with water in it. The expansion of the water as it turns to ice could compromise the integrity of the seams that hold the bottle together!
How is a stainless steel bottle different from an aluminum bottle? top
Aluminum is known to leach various chemicals which are bad for your health. To counter leaching, many aluminum bottle companies will line the inside of their bottles with an epoxy, ceramic, plastic, or other unknown coating. These coatings have been known to leach or crack over the life of the bottle. We feel it’s safest to know exactly what is coming into contact with your water. This is why safe, nonleaching, and durable 304 grade stainless steel is used.
What do I do if my bottle has a rust spot? top
No problem! Stainless steel is highly rust and corrosion resistant, however it’s not 100% rust proof. Sometimes the shiny chromium surface of stainless steel can get scratched and rust spots can occur. Also, iron particles can find their way onto the surface of the steel and rust.
The best way to prevent your bottle from showing rust spots is simple: keep it clean! Regularly rinse and wash your bottle using a non-abrasive cleaner and pad. Remember, the chromium surface can scratch, so no steel wool or SOS pads when cleaning your bottle.
What is the black mat on the bottom of my bottle made of? top
One attribute people love about our bottles are the soft non-slip black mats on the bottom of our bottles. The material we use is a safe non-toxic EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate). EVA is a common material that is recyclable and used in many things including baby teething toys.
