It was a meandering path that finally brought Dan to yoga. After dabbling in Hatha, Dan was taken by a friend to try "yoga that you'll like a lot more," and he was introduced to Ashtanga. It was love at first asana, well a love-hate relationship to begin with, but as he learned to let go only love remained. The fusion of mind and body, and the sweat and strength that comes with it led Dan to the teacher’s path.
Learning and taking his teacher training with Rameen Peyrow, student of the late Sri K. Patthabi Jois, Dan has since begun his new life of helping others, starting Shakti Yoga in Edmonton, AB, Canada. "Shakti" has many meanings, among the most relevant to Dan and why he chose it as the name of his school are that it embodies "power, ability, capacity and strength." Dan feels that each of us holds the potential to develop these aspects of ourselves, as his goal is to help his students on their path to enlightenment.
