Thirst-Aid

To honor World Water Day, Manduka is giving 10% of all Water Bottle and eQua Towel sales through March 31st to Thirst-Aid – an organization that is now directing one of the most successful ceramic water filter interventions in the world.

Thirst-Aid was created by Curt & Cathy Bradner after visiting Myanmar on a summer bicycling trip. After learning of the poor water conditions as well as the prevalent waterborne diseases affecting the community, Curt & Cathy felt compelled to stay in Myanmar. Determined to find a solution they put their knowledge of engineering and microeconomics to work. Over the years, Curt & Cathy have helped build a sustainable system for creating clean, safe water by forming ceramic pots out of red earth and grounded rice husks which help filter out 99% of harmful agents found in the local water supply.

Thirst-Aid also has established the 5 = Alive program, where ceramic water filters and hygiene products are subsidized for women who are pregnant, and for mothers with children that are 5 and under. Studies by the Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage Network have shown that if a child can make it to the age of 5, their immune systems will be mature enough to process untreated water.

Thirst Aid doesn't save lives. They teach people how to save their own, by teaching them how to "wash" their water.

Help us support Thirst-Aid's mission by gearing up with eQua Towels and Water Bottles. We’ll be sending 10% of the sales directly to Thirst-Aid.

Yogi Of The Week: Morgan

This is Morgan.

He is a medical assistant, nursing student and dedicated bicyclist. Morgan rides his bike 365 days a year --- through downtown Chicago. Morgan is willing to take chances, which is exactly how he found his yoga practice 11 years ago. It started as a way to help him relax and stretch after running 20+ miles per week, it became a source of clarity.

Morgan has a few battle scars. Exactly one year after fracturing his left clavicle, he had an epiphany in Kapotasana: life will hand you breaks, but you choose whether it breaks your spirit, or whether it lets you blossom through the cracks.

Morgan recently raised $1,000 for a friend in India that has Tuberculosis and needed an oxygen machine. Knowing that his friend will be able to breathe for the rest of the year, allows him to breathe easier, too.

He amazes us.

Meeting Morgan was a lightbulb moment: we need to meet you too. This is your community, and this is the YOU year. Manduka is on a mission to get to know everyone who makes this yoga community so vibrant, and so real. Because we all have something to learn from you — about how we see ourselves, or approach our practice, or make yoga mats.

Every week, we'll share the story of another real yogi. Maybe soon you'll see yourself here, or see something in yourself here.

Yogi Of The Week: Stephen

Meet Stephen.

He is a devoted father & husband, Krista Cahill groupie, and loves sharing his affection for gravity-defying inversions with the good people of Tampa, Florida. His practice begins the moment that he steps onto his 9-year-old Black Mat PRO.

For Stephen, yoga provides a base for some of the most important relationships in his life. With his wife, their practice bonds them together. With his religion, yoga helps keep him spiritually fulfilled. And with his 2 ½ year old daughter, yoga offers him virtue—providing a little extra patience that dads sometimes need. Hearing her say: “Look daddy, updog!” lands Stephen right on cloud nine.

What started as a healing exercise for some early childhood injuries, yoga has now become a way of life for Stephen. Challenging his body while calming his mind, all at the same time.

We loved learning about Stephen. And we want to learn more about you...

Yogi Of The Week: Janine

Meet Janine.

She's a SoCal gal, globe trekker, a dancer lifestyle blogger and aspiring jeweler. And everywhere she goes, with everything she sees, touches and shares, is her yoga practice. And no one knows her best like her Black Mat PRO.

Yoga is Janine's rock. In this crazy, fast-paced, stressful world, yoga provides comfort and a stable foundation from which everything else can carefully balance. It is her peace of mind, her inspiration, her hope. Yoga has taught Janine to see the beauty, which is the inspiration for her blog.

She remembers it like it was yesterday: Singapore. Warm tropical air in the wee hours of the morning. The wooden platform in the gardens of the Mandarin Hotel. An invitation to breathe, really breathe. Alone with her pulse. This is where her yoga practice got real. She found her center, her calling and her bliss.

We loved learning about Janine. And we want to learn more about you...
